Student leader hacked

A local Chhatra League leader was seriously injured as criminals hacked him in the city on Wednesday night.
The victim is Rafiur Rahman Rafi, president of Rangpur Carmichael College unit BCL. He was admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
Police said a gang of 25 attacked Rafi with sharp weapons at Lalbag Plaza in front of the college at around 10:30pm when he was gossiping with some of his friends.
Rafi said, Shibir activists might have carried out the attack as BCL men chased them on Pahela Baishakh night while trying to bring out a procession on the campus.
A gang of muggers might also have been involved in connection with the attack as the BCL men caught two of them on the campus and handed them over to police a few days ago.
Additional police have been deployed on the campus to avert further trouble, said Md Shahabuddin Khalifa, officer in-charge at Kotwali police station.
