Sri Lanka seeks easy pharma purchase from Bangladesh
Sri Lanka is eager to have an institutional framework for procurement of pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh, Maithripala Sirisena, the visiting Sri Lankan health minister, said yesterday.
He spoke while meeting with Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at her ministry in Dhaka yesterday.
Dipu Moni welcomed the Sri Lankan government's initiative to purchase medicine from Bangladesh under a government-to-government arrangement and assured the visitor of all possible cooperation in this regard.
She requested the Sri Lankan minister to ease the process for Bangladeshi pharmaceutical companies to export their products to Sri Lanka.
Sirisena thanked the foreign minister for Bangladesh's assistance in supply of the medicine and informed that Sri Lanka would like to have an institutional framework for procurement of pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh.
Both ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation for training of Bangladeshi nurses/nurses' trainers in Sri Lanka.
They also agreed on further enhancing bilateral cooperation particularly in the health sector.
Sirisena is on a three-day visit to Bangladesh from April 8-10.
