Ronaldo stunner wins UEFA goal of the season
Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning overhead kick last season, which won the hearts of Juventus fans and eventually proved to have provided impetus for his Juventus move, has been voted as the Goal Of The Season by UEFA.com voters.
It was the all-important quarterfinal tie between Real Madrid and Juventus and in the 64th minute of the match, Ronaldo met a Dani Carvajal cross after moving away from the goal before executing a perfectly-timed overhead kick to score his second of the match.
He succeeds his new Juve colleague Mario Mandzukic, who won last year for his goal against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final, while Lionel Messi took the award in both 2014/15 and 2015/16.
Ronaldo was still in awe of the reaction from Juventus fans after the goal and took to Instagram to reveal how memorable the goal was for him after winning the award. 'Will never forget that moment, especially the reaction of the fans in the stadium," he wrote.
Italian fans rose in appreciation of Ronaldo’s magnificent overhead kick and Ronaldo reiterated that it was something that never happened to him before – getting an ovation from opposition fans during a match. Ronaldo’s goal topped the poll with nearly 200,000 of the total 346,915 votes.
