Ronaldo yet to score after 23 shots
Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to open his account for his new club Juventus after three matches and the Portuguese topped the list for most shots without scoring a goal among players in the Europe’s top five leagues.
The Portuguese however had a decent game and coach Massimiliano Allegri was happy with the player’s contribution so far. The 33-year-old five-time Ballon d'Or winner missed a chance to open his account after 26 minutes when his powerful header was just wide, and spurned another chance ten minutes into the second half.
Ronaldo was said to be frustrated after former teammate Luka Modric won the UEFA Player of the Year award, beating Ronaldo by 90 points. His teammate Matuidi, who scored the opening goal in Juve’s win over Parma, said that the Portuguese is ‘going to be a little annoyed at not finding the net’.
Ronaldo has had 23 shots so far and has the greatest number of shots without scoring so far with Nantes midfielder Valentin Rongier behind him in second with 15 shots. Christian Benteke is third in the list, with no goals from his 13 shots at goal, while Toulouse striker Andy Delort (12) and Lyon ace Nabil Fekir (11) make up the top five of Europe's wayward finishers thus far.
Last season at Real Madrid, Cristiano found it hard to score in the league at the beginning but found his scoring boot once the league wore on. Real however lost the league as Ronaldo scored 26 times from 27 appearances in the league. He however once again finished as Champions League top-scorer last season with 15 goals as Madrid retained the trophy. Juventus will be hoping that something similar can happen this time around and with the team winning all three matches around, Ronaldo has time to improve his scoring form.
