Speedy Trial Tribunal takes up Malibagh killing case
The Speedy Trial Tribunal Dhaka Division yesterday took up the case concerning the Malibagh killings on February 13, 2001.
Judge Shahed Noor Uddin fixed tomorrow for appearance of the accused in the case.
The judge also directed former Awami League Lawmaker Dr HBM Iqbal and six other accused, now on bail, to appear before it tomorrow, issued warrant of arrest against eight absconders including Pichchi Hannan and issued production of warrant against the eight accused, now in jail custody.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police on December 31 last year submitted a chargesheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM's) Court, Dhaka against Iqbal and 23 others.
In the case filed with Motijheel Police Station, it has been alleged that four persons including a policeman, were killed and four others wounded when activists of the then ruling AL opened fire on an opposition procession in the city's Malibagh area during hartal hours on that day. Then four-party opposition alliance called the hartal demanding immediate resignation of the AL government.
