Injured Jubo Dal man dies

A Jubo Dal leader of Meherpur district who sustained severe injury on March 25 died at a hospital in Dhaka city yersterday. Deceased Milon Hossain, 29, was son of Reaz Uddin Biswas of Dhankhola in Gangni upazila of the district and organising secretary of Dhakhola union unit Jubo Dal. Alamgir Hossain, officer in-charge (OC) of Gangni police station said Milon was severely stabbed during a clash with his rivals in the area. He was taken to Kushtia General Hospital and then shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital where died at about 3:30am. A case was filed with Gangni police station on Tuesday but no was arrested in this connection.
Betel leaf garden gutted

A devastating fire gutted a betel leaf garden on 15 bighas at Dighalkandi village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district yesterday afternoon. The fire damaged betel leaves worth Tk 50 lakh, claim the fire-affected owners. Habibur Rahman, a Fire Brigade official of Meherpur told this correspondent that the fire probably originated at the kitchen of one Akbar Ali of the village. It burnt his three houses and then spread to the nearby betel leaf garden.
Smuggled clothes seized

BGB seized smuggled Indian clothes worth Tk 10 crore in Rampur area in Sharsha upazila yesterday morning. Rafiqul Islam, Benapole Camp Company Commander of 26 BGB, said the border guards intercepted a truck and recovered a huge quantity of Indian sari, three-pieces and shirt pieces at 6:00am. The smuggled goods were being taken to the capital from Benapole border, said BGB sources. Later, the seized goods were handed over to Benapole Customs.
Answer scripts seized

Police have seized 520 answer scripts of social science of Dakhil examination being held under the madrasa education board. Police also arrested Saifuddin, clark of Tushkhali Hosainia Dakhil Madrasa at about 8pm on Friday from Tushkhali bazar in Sadar upazila. Police quoting Saifuddin said, Maulana Abdur Rob, assistant teacher of the madrasa received 520 answer scripts of the madrasa for their evaluation. But Rob handed those over to Saifuddin, clerk of the same institution, to evaluate it illegally. On information, Md. Nur Alam, UNO of Patuakhali Sadar upazila raided a medicine shop at Tushkhali bazar and arrested Saifuddin while he was evaluating those. Abdur Rob went on hiding after the arrest of Saifuddin, police said.
10 injured in clash

At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups centring a football match at Danapur in Kulaura upazila of the district Friday evening. The clash ensued following an altercation between Rangilpool Sporting Club and Jalalpur Sporting Club over establishing supremacy in the area, police and locals said. The injured were admitted to Kulaura upazila health complex.
