Youth hacked to death

A youth was hacked to death by criminals on Faridpur Medical College Hospital premises in Paschim Khabashpur area of the town early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Bappi Mia, 22, son of Bachchu Mia, of the area. Family sources said, Bappi went missing since he went out of home following a phone call from his friends around 11pm on Saturday. Later, local people found his body near the water tank in the hospital area around 1:00am on Sunday. The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately.
Youths jailed for stalking

A mobile court here yesterday sentenced two youths to six months imprisonment each for stalking a college girl. The Sadar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) in Tangail Mallika Khatun as executive magistrate punished Jahidur Rashid of Shibnath Para and Ashiqur Rahman of Karatia College Para for threatening the girl in face book. Nazrul Islam, officer in-charge (OC) of Tangail Model police station, said the youths opened a fake account in face book in her name and posted obscene pictures and comments. The two youths later informed it to the girl through a cell phone message.
Jubo League men clash
Unb, Faridpur
At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Jubo League in Nagarkanda upazila on Saturday evening. Police and witnesses said Jubo League Nagarkanda upazila unit general secretary Mizanur Rahman and its Faridpur municipal unit president Al-Mamun had long been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area. They said the clash broke out at Nagarkanda Bazar following an altercation over a public project work. At one stage, supporters of both the groups attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving the 15 people injured on both sides. They also vandalised 20 shops at the bazaar and looted valuables.
Bomb blasts at KC College

Two bombs were exploded at Jhenidah Government Keshab Chandra (KC) Degree College in the town during a clash between the activists of BCL and JCD over establishing supremacy on the campus yesterday. However, none was injured, said Kazi Jalal Uddin Ahmed, officer in-charge of Jhenidah police station. BCL district unit president Biswazit Saha Mithun and JCD KC college unit president Masum Parvez blamed each other for the bomb attack.
Realtor abducted

Criminals abducted a local realtor from Joykhali area in Batiaghata upazila on Saturday night. The victim is Suranjan Sutar, 37, owner of Sabuz Bangla Housing Estate and general secretary of Jalma union Puja Udjapon Parishad in the upazila. He is a resident of Iqbal Nagar Mosque lane in the city. Durga Rani, wife of the victim, said a gang of 6/7 kidnapped his husband at 8:00pm when he and his associate Dr Kumud were going to Kaiya Bazar from Zero Point by a motorbike. On information, police rushed to the spot and seized two bullets, a magazine and a lethal weapon from there, police said.
Health camp in Satkhira
Doctors at a health camp in Tala upazila of Satkhira district detected 177 diabetic cases and found that a large number of others do not have their glucose under control, says a press release. The camp held on Saturday and the day before also found that 160 people checked their glucose for the first time and 10 percent of them were already diabetic. Organised by Farida Haque Shasthasheba Prakalpa (FHSP), Dr MA Hasanat, associate professor of the Department of Diabetes and Hormone at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, along with 11 other post graduate doctors conducted the health camp. Among others Barrister Fahimul Haque and Professor KM Shahidul Islam, chairman and member of FHSP respectively, Shahidul Islam, director of an NGO named Uttaran were in the management of the event.
Hilsa seized by BGB

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in a drive seized 302 kgs of hilsa fish from Parulia Bazar in Debhata upazila on Saturday. Tipped off, a BGB team conducted a drive in Parulia Bazar at noon and seized the hilsa worth Tk 3 lakh, operation officer of BGB-38 Satkhira Maj Mazhar said, adding that the Hilsa fish were being smuggled to India. The smugglers, however, managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the paramilitary force.
