Lightning kills 3

Three people were killed by lightning at different villages in Pirganj upazila yesterday noon. The deceased were identified as Abdus Sattar, 35, son of Azahar Ali of Chak-Solagari village, Dulu, 32, son of Abul Hossain of Koranchabari village and Tobarok Ali, 55, son of late Mofazzal Hossain of Panbari village. Jahidur Rahman, officer in-charge of Pirganj Police Station, said the trio were struck by lightning when they were working at separate paddy fields. They died on the spot.
Woman commits 'suicide'

A housewife allegedly committed suicide at Pirozkhali village in Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Sherina, 22, daughter of Ali Hossain. Police said victim's husband Shahin, a drug addict, often tortured her over trivial matter after three years of their marriage. Sherina engaged in an altercation with Shahin over his taking drug yesterday afternoon. Later, she took her life by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room.
Three bodies recovered

Police recovered the bodies of three unidentified fishermen from Jahajmara char in Rangabali upazila yesterday morning. Local fishermen found the bodies in the char area and informed police. The bodies were sent to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Masuduzzaman, officer in-charge of Rangabali Police Station. The trio might have been killed by robbers, said the OC.
Four robbers held

Police in separate drives arrested four suspected robbers and recovered looted money, gold ornaments and other valuables in Lohagara upazila on Friday night. The arrestees are Tariqul Islam, 25, of Chachui Purbopara village, Siraz Sheikh alias Kabila, 35, of Ramkantopur village, Zakir Sikder, 35, of Gaga village in Lohagara upazila and Sarojeet Dutt, 36, of Brammonkanda village in Faridpur district. On July 25, a gang looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from two houses in the upazila, said Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer in-charge of Lohagara Police Station.
Man drowns

A man drowned in a haor at Fotepur village in Rajnagar upazila on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Abdul Haq, 30, son late Foyjullah Miah of the village. Kamrul Islam, officer in-charge of Rajnagor Police Station, said Abdul accidentally fell into the haor adjacent to their house and drowned. The body was sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC.
