Temple set on fire

Criminals set a temple on fire at Puraton Bazar on Daudpur road in the town early yesterday. Sub-inspector Saiful Islam of Sadar police station said, a gang set on fire the Kali Mandir on Daudpur road and damaged an idol and some goods. Krishna Saha, president of the temple, said that the incident took palce at midnight. Seeing the fire, night guard of the area extinguished the fire and informed it to local Hindus. On information, police rushed to the spot to investigate the matter.
Fire damages betel garden

Betel leaves on 10 bighas were damaged in a devastating fire at Taragunia village in Daulatpur upazila in the district on Tuesday evening. Affected garden owners claimed that the fire gutted leaves worth Tk 15 lakh. The fire originated at the betel leaf garden of one Abdus Sattar Malitha at about 6.00pm and soon engulfed over 10 bighas. Farmers of the locality cultivated betel on about 60 bighas at Taragunia.
UP member murdered

Police recovered the body of a union parishad (UP) member from a maize field at Kusharigaon village under Pirganj upazila yesterday afternoon. The deceased was Alauddin Fakir, 50, son of Hafizuddin of the same village and a member of Bhamradaha union parishad of the upazila. Officer in charge of Pirganj police station Mehedi Hasan told this correspondent over cell phone that Alauddin Fakir went out of his house at 10:00am on Tuesday. Later local people found his body in a maize field half a kilometer away from his house and informed police. The OC said there was an injury mark under his left eye and he was murdered.
Body recovered

Police yesterday recovered the body of a man from Brahmaputra river bank at Juanerchar village in Dewanganj upazila of the district. The deceased is Abul Kashem, 55, of Sayedabad village under Roumari upazila of Kurigram. Locals found his body buried in the sand on the bank, while his hands visible on the surface, said officer in-charge Md Mizanur Rahman of Dewanganj police station. Kashem had remained missing since Sunday night. Previous enmity might have led to his killing, police said.
Cloth store gutted

A big cloth store was gutted by a fire at Shapla Super Market in the town on Tuesday night. The fire originated from an electric shot circuit at about 9:00pm at the shop and gutted all the cloths in it. On information, a fire service unit from Bogra town rushed to the spot and doused the blaze. The affected shop owner claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 20 lakh.
