AL man stabbed to death

An Awami League (AL) activist was stabbed to death in Kalihati upazila of the district on Tuesday night. The deceased, Sohel Rana, 25, was joint secretary of Ward No 8 unit of Paikora union AL. family members said that an unidentified gang called Sohel out of his house at around 10:00pm. They stabbed him in the chest and abdomen and left the scene immediately.Critically injured Sohel was taken to Tangail General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 12:30.
Student commits 'suicide'

A college student allegedly committed suicide in Sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Rubel, 20, son of Shah Alam of Charfession municipality. He was a second year student of Bhola Government College. Belayet Hossain, officer in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Rubel hanged himself from the ceiling of his room at a student mess on PTI road in the town.

Police yesterday arrested an Indian national at Narikeli village in Sadar upazila on charge of illegal intrusion. The arrestee is Fika Rizki Mohammad, 18, son of Fika Rizvi Mohammad of Bandaflat area under Jogeshwari Police Station of Mumbai, India. On secret information, police arrested the youth while he was walking lonely on the village road, said Nazrul Islam, sub-inspector of Sadar PS. He did not have any passport and visa, said the SI.
Outlaw held with arms

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the leader of an outlawed outfit along with arms at Manikdia village in Gangni upazila on Monday night. The arrestee was identified as Jamshed Ali Jhantu, 50, regional leader of Purbo Bangla Communist Party (Laltu group). Kazi Akhter Hossain, camp commander of Rab-6, said a team of the elite force arrested Jhantu while he along with his accomplices was sitting at a tea stall in the area. His accomplices, however, managed to flee. Rab men also recovered a USA made pistol, four bullets and one magazine from his possession.
