'Missing' girl found dead

Police recovered the body of a teenage girl at a tea garden in Mirtinga tea estate area in Kamolganj upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Basonti Urang, 18, daughter of Arjun Urang of Munshibazar union. Police said, locals found the body of the girl who went 'missing' a few days ago at section 6 of the garden. Office in-charge at Kamolganj police station Nihar Ranjan Nath said they were investigating whether it was an accident or murder.
Student strangled in Khulna

A class nine student of Pather Bazar High School was strangled in Dighalia upazila early yesterday. The dead was identified as Tara Sarder, 15, son of Razzak Sarder, of Senhati Katalipara village in the upazila. Quoting his father, officer in-charge of Dighalia police station Rokonuzzaman said, Tara came out of his house with his father's motorbike for refuelling it around 5.00pm on Tuesday and since remained missing. On information, police recovered the body near a graveyard at Deara Goalpara in the upazila around 7.00am yesterday. The OC suspected that the boy might have been killed by his friends to take away the motorcycle.
Six addicts jailed

A mobile court sentenced six addicts to jail, each for six months, on Tuesday noon. The arrestees are Nazrul, 42, Saiful, 30, Alam, 25, Zahidul, 28, Shahidul, 26, Khokon, 25 of different places in Sherpur upazila. Sherpur police arrested the six from different places of the municipality area and produced before the executive magistrate and upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Sherpur Mahamudul Alam who pronounced the verdict.
BGB-BSF flag meeting

A flag meeting between the border guards of Bangladesh and India was held near Burimari land port in Patgram upazila yesterday. The meeting of BGB and BSF decided to stop illegal entrance and smuggling through the border. The flag meeting that started at 11 am ended at 1 pm, the BGB official said. Commanding Officer (CO) of Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Mahbubur Rahman led the BGB team and the commandant of Raninagar 104 BSF Battalion under Coochbehar district in Paschimbanga Lieutenant Colonel Bhirendir Singh led the BSF team.
Man held on rape charge

A teacher of a girls' high school was arrested yesterday on charge of rape at Gridokalindia village in Faridganj upazila of the district. Md Nazmul Haque, OC of Faridganj police station said, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when Taslim Ahmed, headmaster of Gridokalindia Girls' High School took the woman, aged about 22, of Raipur upazila in Laxmipur, to a rented house at the village and violated her. Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot and held the rapist red handed and informed the police.
Hundi trader held

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday arrested a hundi trader at Changkhali under Jibonnagar upazila and seized over Tk 26 lakh from him. The arrestee was identified as Rabindra Howlader, 29, son of Adhir Howlader of Moheshpur upazila town in Jhenidah district. BGB-6 sources said, acting on a secret information, a team led by Major Nahiduzzaman, raided the area and arrested Rabindra along with the money.
