Missing boy found dead

A teenage boy, who went missing from Diar Baghoil village in Ishwardi upazila on September 21, was found dead in Laxmikundo area of the upazila yesterday. Locals found the body of Md Wasim, 18, floating on the Padma River in the morning and informed the police, who recovered the body at around 11:00am and sent it to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Officer-in-charge Biman Kumar Das of Ishwardi Police Station said Wasim's hands and legs were tied up with ropes. 'We are trying to unearth clue to the murder,” the OC added.

 

Muggers kill auto-rickshaw driver

An Auto-rickshaw driver was stabbed to death by a gang of muggers on Dhuliakhal-Mirpur Road in Habiganj Sadar upazila early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Sumon Miah, 18, son of Mortuj Ali of Sultasi village in the upazila. Locals said a gang of muggers waylaid Sumon on the road at around 2:00am. As he tried to resist the gang members, they stabbed him and left the scene. Sumon was taken to Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. His body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

 

Pry edn office besieged

Panel teachers of former registered primary schools in the district besieged the district primary education office yesterday, demanding their appointment. The teachers said the government gave appointment to 16, 000 out of 42, 000 panel teachers. They urged the prime minister and the minister for primary and mass education minister to give appointment to the rest 26,000 panel teachers.They also threatened to stage hunger strike on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the capital on October 5 if their demand was not met by October 4.

 

Criminals cut betel plants

Criminals razed to ground over 600 betel plants at Belua Punjee (village) in Kormodha union under Kulaura uapzila of the district yesterday. Belua Punjee people told this correspondent that the criminals cut down the plants each 10 to 15 feet high in the morning. Lobing Marlia, assistant head of Belua punjee, demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the persons involved in such heinous act. However, he could not say the exact reason behind the incident. Kulaura police said they were investigating the matter.
