Six underage speedboat drivers arrested

Police in a drive arrested six underage boys on charges of driving speedboats on Kawrakandi route illegally yesterday.
Officer in-charge Abul Khair of Shibchar police station said many under aged and unskilled people are driving the speedboats in the route, causing frequent accidents.
Due to this, we led the drive and arrested the drivers from the Ghat, he added.
On April 18, a woman was killed and 10 others were injured while four went missing in a head-on collision between two speedboats on Mawa-Kawrakandi route. Later, five more bodies were recovered from the River Padma.
In-charge of Mawa river police Md Hafizur Rahman said, such mishap often took place in the route as speedboats driven recklessly without any light defying ban.
