Shortage of teachers in schools, colleges
CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Jan 15: Academic activities in various government schools and colleges in the town are seriously being hampered for lack of teachers, reports UNB.
According to a competent source, 54 posts of teachers and staff have long been lying vacant in two government colleges and two government high schools.
Although Nawabganj Govt College has honours courses in eight subjects, there is no teacher for the honours students. The teachers, who have been recruited for HSC and degree levels, are taking honours classes too.
A total of 21 posts, including 16 of teachers, are lying vacant in the college.
The Govt. Women's College is also facing the same problem. Home Economics department of the college has no teacher for the last five years while Bengali department has got only one teacher.
Harimohan Government High School has shutdown a section in 1999 due to lack of teachers. Eleven posts, out of 27, are lying vacant in the school.
Nawabganj Girls' High School, the lone government girls' high school in the district, is also facing acute shortage of teachers.
Sources said the authorities have decided not to enroll new students in class III in the current academic session, as its 10 posts of teachers out of 26 are lying vacant.
