Shibir snatches 11700 CU admission forms
CHITTAGONG, Jan 17: Activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir today snatched 11,700 admission test forms of first year Honours courses for 1999-2000 academic session of Chittagong University from the gate of Agrani Bank at Kapash Gola in the city.
Police and university sources said forms of Ka, Kha, Ga, Gha and Uma units were snatched as some CU officials were taking those to the bank.
Classes were not held at the university today as Shibir enforced an 'indefinite siege' on the campus protesting killing of two of its party activists in a gunfight with Chhatra League at the university on December 19. The university reopened yesterday.
No shuttle train or teachers' bus plied between the campus and the city.
Meanwhile, examinations of Management, Marine Science, Sociology and English departments, scheduled to be held on January 20, 18, 22 and 24 respectively, have been postponed due to "unavoidable circumstances", said a CU press release.
The CU Syndicate at a meeting with Prof Abdul Mannan in the chair today discussed the situation and made Prof Kazi Mustain Billah the new chief of an earlier formed committee to investigate the December 19 incidents.
The Syndicate also formed a four-member Liaison Committee headed by Prof Abdus Salam for talks with different student organisations to restore academic atmosphere on the campus.
Others member of the committee are Proctor Prof Gazi Salauddin, Prof Shamsuddin, Provost of AF Rahman Hall and Prof Sultan Ahmed, Provost of Shah-Jalal Hall.
