Shibir shows strength on RU campus after three years

After about three years, Rajshahi University unit of pro-Jamaat student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a procession on the campus yesterday.
About 200 Shibir leaders and activists led by RU unit Shibir President Ashraful Alam Emon brought out the procession around 12:00pm, soon after the announcement of the victory of 18-party backed mayoral candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul in the Rajshahi City Corporation election, witness said.
They shouted slogans against RU unit of pro-Awami League student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), and exploded three handmade bombs to observe the victory, they said.
Many of the leaders and activists who took part in the procession are absconded accused in different cases filed against them on various charges, including launching an attack on BCL activists on the campus on February 8, 2010 when BCL activist Faruk Hossain was killed and 100 others were injured.
Police, however, did not arrest any of the accused.
RU Proctor Prof Tarikul Hasan said they will take necessary steps to avoid any untoward incident on the campus.
"We have also deployed additional cops on the campus", he said.
Motihar Police Station Officer-in-Charge said Ashit Kumar Ghosh said they will take steps against the miscreants who will try to create anarchy on the campus.
