Shibir enforces hartal
A half-day hartal, called by Islami Chhatra Shibir to protest the killing of one of its leaders in Dhaka, passed off peacefully in the district yesterday.
Vehicular movement was thin in the district town. Most roadside shops remained shut during the hartal hours.
The educational institutions in the district town also remained closed.
During the hartal, Shibir activists put up rood barricades in Bangabari, Modhupur and Rajapur areas of Sadar upazila and in Dashuria of Ishwardi upazila.
Khalilur Rahman, 22, president of ward No. 88 of Shibir Dhaka city unit and son of Abdul Baten Mollik of Mollikpara village in Santhia upazila, was killed in a clash with police in the capital's Jatrabari area during Jamaat's hartal on Wednesday.
