Schoolgirl kills herself after rape

A 13-year-old student of class seven committed suicide on Monday night allegedly after she was gang-raped at a student mess in Chawkbazar area of Rangpur city.
Lima Akhtar was the daughter of Sheuly Begum and a student of the Underprivileged Children's Educational Programmes (UCEP) School in Tajhat. Local sources said her mother works as a cook at a student mess in Chawkbazar. As her mother was sick on Monday, Lima was sent there to do the job.
It is alleged that Mushfiqur Rahman, a third-year student of Rangpur Carmichael College, forcibly took Lima to his room at the mess and raped her. Later, Abdur Razzak, a fourth-year student of Begum Rokeya University, also raped her. Both are said to have threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.
After returning home, Lima hanged herself from the ceiling of her room.
In a suicide note, sources say, she wrote the names of the two rapists.
