Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah was directly and indirectly involved in killing hundreds of civilians and freedom fighters during the Liberation War, Additional Attorney General MK Rahman told the Supreme Court yesterday.
Quoting from a war crimes trial verdict, he said Mollah and his aides murdered pro-liberation poet Meherun Nesa, her mother and two brothers at their home at Mirpur on March 27, 1971.
The additional attorney general was placing his arguments before the apex court on the third day of the hearing on the government's appeal.
The appeal was filed on March 3 seeking death penalty for Mollah for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on February 5 handed down lifetime imprisonment to Mollah for his wartime offences.
After concluding yesterday's proceedings, the Appellate Division fixed Sunday for further hearing on the appeal.
