Savar tragedy, our economy
The tragic incident of Savar has again proved that the fate of the poor garment workers is still decided by the factory owners. Though there have been repeated incidents of building collapse and fire over the years, the owners of the factories are not concerned about this. Rather, they compel the workers to work in an adverse environment. It is very shocking to know that many garment factories are housed in buildings that are not safe. Those risky buildings may collapse any time. These incidents are discouraging foreign investors from investing in this sector, which is harmful for our economy. But our greedy factory owners and corrupt politicians seem to see nothing wrong here.
