Rony denied bail again
Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony's bail in connection with an attempted murder case has been denied again.
The case was filed against the Patuakhali-3 lawmaker on July 20 hours after he beat up Independent TV reporter Imtiaz Momin and cameraperson Mohsin Mukul at his Topkhana Road office in the capital.
Judge (in-charge) Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka yesterday rejected the bail petition after a hearing on the petition filed by Rony challenging the bail rejection order of another lower court.
On July 28, Rony submitted it to the court three days after the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka rejected his bail petition for the first time and sent him to jail in the case.
He obtained ad-interim bail on July 21, which was cancelled on July 24 following an appeal by Yusuf Ali, assistant manager of the TV channel.
Later in the day, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Rony at the gate of Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital.
Meanwhile, three other cases were filed against Rony and several others on Sunday and Monday.
Two of the cases were filed against Rony, his relatives, and some of his local party men on charges of extortion, foiling a party meeting, and ransacking business establishments with Galachipa Police Station in Patuakhali on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, a case was lodged against Rony and 14 others with a Patuakhali court in connection with their alleged involvement in embezzling Tk 79 crore from ongoing development projects of the government.
