Rony challenges denial of bail

Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony yesterday challenged the legality of his bail rejection order that was passed by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka in an attempted murder case.
The court on July 25 rejected the bail petition and sent him to jail in the case filed for beating up Independent TV reporter Imtiaz Momin and cameraperson Mohsin Mukul at his Topkhana Road office on July 20.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court yesterday fixed August 13 for hearing on the bail petition after Rony's lawyer submitted it against the rejection order.
Rony obtained ad interim bail on July 21 and it was cancelled on July 24 following an appeal by Yusuf Ali, assistant manager of the TV channel. He was arrested on July 24.
