Rohana lifts BAGC crown
Anura Rohana of Sri Lanka survived a stiff late surge by Ahmed Ali Shah to clinch the 15th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship which concluded at the Kurmitola Golf Club yesterday afternoon.
However more dissapointment was waiting for the the Ahmed Ali as Malaysian and ASEAN Cup junior champion Airal Razman edged out the current holder to the 2nd runner-up spot with 290 (2 over par). Both players finished four rounds in 290 strokes, but the Pakistani had to remain satisfied with third place on the basis of the last day's score which he lost by one stroke.
The close finish between the three contenders kept everyone guessing till the last hole.
The ladies' trophy was won by South Korea's K.S. Park. She carded a score of 277 in the three-round competition. Compatriot Jung Sook Jung followed her in second place.
Veteran Indian player Sanjeev Mehra took home the men's best net prize and J.S. Park claimed the ladies' equivalent respectively.
The final round also witnessed a course record by Malaysia's Lim Eng Seng. He shot the lowest gross score of 67 though did not perform well enough to be among the prizes.
Besides, the first edition of the new century saw Sri Lankan and Malaysian golfers take part and the competitive field produced high quality performances.
KGC vice president, Maj Gen Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury gave away prizes at the club in the evening.
