'Robber' killed in Noakhali 'gunfight'
An alleged robber was killed and seven people including five police men were injured in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Hatia upazila of Noakhali early Friday.
Deceased Yunus, 38, was leader of the notorious ‘Yunus Group’, said Khorshed Alam, officer in-charge (OC) of Hatia Police Station.
Injured police men include Tanvir, sub-inspector of the police station, Manjur, assistant sub-inspector, and Jamal, a constable, reports our correspondent in Noakhali quoting the OC.
Acting on tip-off, police raided a camp of the robbers at Kalamchar around 2:00am, the police official said.
Sensing their presence, the robbers opened fire on them prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, Khorshed added.
As the robbers retreated, police detained Yunus's wife Asma Akter and another member of the team Ismail Hossain, from the spot with bullet wounds.
Police also recovered a sawed-off rifle and 12 cartridges from the spot.
