The daylong roadblock in Matiranga, Manikchhari and Ramgarh upazilas of Khagrachhari district passed off peacefully, barring some stray incidents of violence, yesterday.
The Democratic Youth Forum (DYF), front organisation of United Peoples Democratic Front enforced the programme protesting imposition of Section 144 at Gumati Bazar in Matiranga upazila for 56 hours from 4:00pm Wednesday by the local administration.
The administration imposed Section 144 in the upazila to ward off any untoward incident as DYF and Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad decided to hold rallies at same place and same time in Gumati area of the upazila yesterday.
Pickets vandalised vehicles and set afire a motorcycle and two 'mini' trucks in Dashmail area of Matiranga upazila, Mahabub Nagar of Ramgarh upazila and Alutila tourism area under Sadar upazila of the district.
All kinds of vehicles stayed off on Khagrachhari-Chittagong and Khagrachhari-Dhaka roads causing the commuters and seasonal fruit cultivators suffer a lot as Thursday was the weekly market day in Khagrachhari.
