Road crashes kill 12
Twelve people were killed and seven others injured in road accidents in Gazipur, Natore, Tangail, Bhola, Chittagong, and Habiganj on Thursday and yesterday.
Our Gazipur correspondent reports, at least four people were killed and five others injured as a passenger bus rammed a human hauler on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Nawjor area in Sadar upazila yesterday.
Among the deceased, one was identified as Sumon, 30.
Police at Nowjor camp said three people died instantly while Sumon on his way to hospital.
All the victims were travelling in the human hauler, said police.
Our Natore correspondent adds, three people were killed and two others injured as a cattle-laden truck overturned after hitting a man on Natore-Rajshahi highway at Ekdala in Sadar upazila early Thursday.
The dead were night guard Mukul Hossain, 45, of Narayanpur village; and cattle traders Fazlul Haque, 55, of Berathana village, and Tayez Uddin Tajul, 40, of Gazipur.
The injured cattle traders took first-aid.
Our Tangail correspondent reports, two truck drivers were killed on the spot as another truck ran them over while they crossing Dhaka-Tangail highway in Bhatkura area of Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Halim Miah, 45, of Denbari village in Savar of Dhaka; and Nazim Uddin, 50, of Pallabi in the capital.
Elenga Highway Police Outpost Sub-inspector Shamsul Alam confirmed the incident.
Our Bhola correspondent adds, a man was killed as a bus hit him on Bhola-Char Fasson road near Farazi Bazar area in Lalmohan upazila on Thursday.
The deceased was Abuds Sattar, 40, son of Abdul Malek of Mongol Sikder village in the upazila.
Locals said the accident occurred while Sattar was crossing the road around 10:00am.
Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, a garment worker was killed when a bus hit her at EPZ intersection in the port city yesterday morning.
The deceased, Bibi Moriam, 42, was a resident of Maizpara area in the city and worked in a factory of EPZ.
Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector of EPZ Police Station, said she was crossing the road.
Our correspondent Moulvibazar adds, a woman was killed as a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying her on Dhaka-Sylhet in Olipur area of Sadar upazila of Habiganj district on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Mahmudha Khatun, 26, wife of Nurul Haque of Sudhia Khal village in the upazila, was going to buy Eid clothes for her family members.
Mahmudha was declared dead at Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
