RMP honours rescuers of injured cop
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) yesterday accorded a reception to Jharna Begum and two journalists for their bravery and humanity when they came to the rescue of a injured policeman who was brutally attacked by Islami Chhatra Shibir activists on Monday.
The two journalists are Rofikul Islam, Rajshahi correspondent of Kaler Kantho, and Mahfuzur Rahman, videographer of ATN News.
The reception was held at RMP headquarters in the city.
RMP Commissioner SM Moniruzzaman handed over crests and bouquets to the trio in a gesture of appreciation and in recognition of their courage.
Addressing the reception, Jharna Begum called upon the countrymen to come to the aid of those who fall victims to violence and other kinds of danger.
Rofikul Islam said he was proud that he saved a man's life as the policeman would have died if he was not taken to a hospital in time.
“We rescued him for the sake of humanity,” said Mahfuzur Rahman, adding that there was no one to help the injured officer as everyone had fled the spot.
The Daily Star on Tuesday published a report on Jharna who went to rescue of Jahangir Alam, in-charge of Upashahar police camp. The policeman, after being severely beaten up, was lying on the road bleeding copiously.
