Readymade garment workers of ten factories in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur yesterday vandalised their workplaces demanding a minimum monthly salary of Tk 8,000.
The authorities declared the ten factories closed for yesterday.
Gazipur industrial police said workers of Interstoof Ltd in Chandra Palli Bidyut area broke several windowpanes and later took to the Dhaka-Tangail highway around 10:30am.
Following them, workers of nine other nearby factories, including Tropical Sweater Ltd, Ahsan Composite Mills Ltd, Echotex Ltd, Divine Knitwear Ltd, Far East Sweater Ltd and Apex Holdings Ltd, also vandalised their factories for few minutes and then joined the demonstration on the road.
Police dispersed the demonstrators using a water canon.
