Re-elect AL for more development: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday inaugurated the much-awaited Elasin Bridge (Shamsul Haque Bridge) over the Dhaleswari river on Aricha-Ghior-Doulatpur-Nagarpur-Tangail regional highway.
The 5-15.12 meter-long bridge having 10.25-meter width has connected uninterruptedly Tangail and Manikganj districts.
Besides, the Tk 94.45 crore bridge will make immense contribution to the socioeconomic development of the two districts.
With the construction of the bridge, the road communication between north and south of greater Mymensingh district has been made easier, while 35 lakh people of eight upazilas of Tangail will directly be benefited.
The construction of the bridge began in October 2009 and ended in June this year.
Speaking at a meeting arranged on the north side of the bridge, the Prime Minister announced the naming of the bridge after the first general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League late Shamsul Haque.
Sheikh Hasina said, her government after assuming office has accomplished a massive development in the communication sector. "We have built 21,000-km roads, 7000 bridges and 4000 culverts in the last four years and nine months," she said.
The Prime Minister urged the people to reelect Awami League for continuation of development and building a hunger and poverty-free Bangladesh by 2021.
"We seek your help and vote to build Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021," she said.
Reiterating her firm determination to complete the trial of war criminals, Sheikh Hasina said: "We have started the trial of the 1971 culprits, verdict in the cases have began, and Insha Allah we will execute the judgments to free the nation from stigma."
Sheikh Hasina also urged the people to remain alert against violent acts of BNP and Jamaat-Hefajat nexus.
