Rape of hill girl sparks protest in Bandarban

A human chain was formed in Bandarban district town yesterday, demanding exemplary punishment to an alleged rapist of a 12-year-old hill girl.
The district unit Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) and Bangladesh Tripura Christian Students Association (BTCSA) organised the programme, reports our correspondent.
On April 4, the girl of Sathkania upazila in Chittagong was rapped allegedly by one Mohammad Forkan, 23, of the upazila, said the participants of the human chain.
Mohammad Ismile, officer in-charge at Sathkania police station, said a case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in this regard.
Among others, Uba Ching Marma, secretary of district unit PCP, Nithyo Lal Chakma, Ajit Tanchangya, Simon Tripora and indigenous students, took part in the human chain.
Away in Patuakhali, a schoolgirl was violated allegedly by a youth in Galachipa upazila on Saturday.
The victim of Gramardon village is a class ten student at a local high school, reports our correspondent.
Family members said Arif Mia came by a motorbike and picked up the girl from a nearby road at around 9:30am when she was on her way to the school.
Arif with the help of two local youths took the victim to a house at local Munshi Bari and raped her.
Hearing the hue and cry, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the girl, said Md Ziaul Haque, officer in-charge at Galachipa police station.
Police seized the motorbike. However, Arif and his accomplices managed to flee. A case was filed, said the OC.
In Brahmanbaria, a housewife was gang raped at Purbabhag village in Nasirnagar upazila on Thursday night, reports our correspondent.
Police said the victim, aged about 30, of Noorpur village was raped allegedly by one Sayed Mia, 35, Nurul Haque, 45, Shahjahan Mia, 40, Bakki Mia, 20, and Ali Ahammad, 40, when she was going to visit her aunt's house at Purbabhag.
Of the accused, Sayed Mia, Nurul Haque and Shahjahan Mia were arrested, said Md Abdul Kader, officer in-charge at Nasirnagar police station.
