The gas production at the Bibiyana Natural Gas Field resumed Sunday morning after a hiatus of nearly five hours, a Petrobangla director said.

“We expect that the gas supply will be normal in the city shortly after 12 noon,” Muhammad Imaduddin, director (PSC) of Petrobangla, told The Daily Star over phone around 11:00am on Sunday when the city dwellers were facing gas crisis.

“The plant suddenly got tripped around 2:00am early Sunday and production stopped for four to five hours. But, it is in full operation now,” Imaduddin said.

"It will take some time for the full pressure to come to the pipeline, as there was a vacuum of gas in the pipeline for several hours in the early Sunday," he noted.

The pressure of the gas however came to normalcy at different parts of the capital when this report was updated around 3:30pm.

Bibiyana Natural Gas Field located in Block 12 in the northeast of Bangladesh in Habiganj produces 830-840 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas a day, and contributes nearly 40 percent of the country’s total daily production of over 2,200 mmcf.
