Probe NSU’s alleged link to terrorism, HC tells govt
The High Court on Wednesday asked the government to investigate the allegation of the North South University’s becoming a breeding ground for terrorists.
Acting on newspaper reports, the HC also asked the government to probe into the allegation that NSU students attacked blogger Asif Mohiuddin in January.
The authorities have been asked to submit investigation reports in a month.
A HC bench, comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Justice Mahmudul Haque, issued the orders in a suo moto (on its own) move.
Referring to reports published in different newspapers, the court said it had been reported that the NSU has become a breeding ground for terrorists.
Though reports were published in newspapers on the attack on Asif Mohiuddin, the perpetrators have not been arrested yet, the court said, adding that no steps have been taken against the attackers.
Asking the authorities to probe both the allegations, the court asked them to submit a report by March 12 on whether they have taken any steps to this effect.
The home secretary, education secretary, inspector general of police, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, vice-chancellor of NSU and all its trustees have been made respondents to the order.
