PM opens new upazila in Bogra
Prime Minister Khaleda Zia formally inaugurated Majhira upazila in Bogra district yesterday. This is the 12th upazila under Bogra district and 469th in the country.
Laying the foundation stone of the upazila complex, the prime minister called for concerted efforts for development of the country. She advised the local leaders to focus on production-, development- and welfare-oriented politics.
"All of you have to play due role from your respective position for advancing the government's development initiatives," she told the gathering.
The prime minister said participation of all sections of people in development activities would help alleviate poverty and make the country self-reliant.
"Through concerted efforts we will come out of poverty and secure a dignified position in the world," she said.
Referring to various development programmes, Khaleda sought active cooperation of all for implementation of these projects.
"If you want to change your lot, you are to implement the development programmes," she added.
State Minister for LGRD Ziaul Haq Zia, Deputy Minister Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu and district BNP president Mahbubur Rahman also spoke at the function.
Majhira upazila comprising 10 unions with 221.58 sqkm area has a population of 2.5 lakh.
There are a number of educational institutions, including an agriculture college, two cantonments and a tourist spot in the newly upgraded Majhira upazila.
Earlier, local MPs Rezaul Bari Dina and Helaluzzaman Talukder Lalu, and Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Mizanur Rahman Minu received the prime minister on her arrival at Bogra Police Lines helipad in the morning.
Schoolchildren standing on both sides of the road welcomed Khaleda Zia on her way to Majhira from the helipad.
