DU Shamsunnahar Hall attack

Perpetrators yet to be punished

A group of police and some pro-BNP JCD leaders, who stormed Shamsunnahar Hall and assaulted some of the resident students at the female dormitory of Dhaka University eleven years ago, are yet to be punished.
On July 23 midnight in 2002, police dragged the students from their beds and assaulted them for their protest against illegal stay of some female Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders. Over female 50 students were injured in the incident.
Students' organisations, including Bangladesh Chhatra League, Bangladesh Chhatra Union and Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, yesterday staged demonstrations on the campus demanding a proper investigation and exemplary punishment for the culprits.
