PCJSS member shot dead in Rangamati
A member of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) was shot dead by an armed gang at Kattoltoli of Longudu upazila headquarters in the district yesterday morning.
The deceased is Karun Chakma, 40, son of Anil Kumar Chakma of Tintital village in the upazila. Karun was a former member of PCJSS, who returned from India after signing of the CHT peace accord in 1997.
A gang, numbering 10 to 12, came to Kattoltola at about 8:00am and sprayed bullets on Karun, leaving him dead on the spot when he was sitting at a tea stall there, said Rezaul Haque, officer in-charge (OC) of Longudu police.
Sajib Chakma, assistant information secretary of PCJSS central committee, however, blamed the anti-peace United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) and rival MN Larma faction of PCJSS for the killing.
Michael Chakma, secretary of Gonotantrik Jubo Forum, youth body of UPDF, refuted the allegation.
It may be a sequel to the conflict within the PCJSS, he said.
