Passage in current JS session demanded
Speakers at a press conference yesterday demanded that the government pass the amended tobacco control law during the current parliament session.
Titled "Amended tobacco control law and hundred percent smoking-free environment", the event was organised by Dhaka Ahsania Mission at its Dhanmondi office in the capital.
They also demanded a ban on establishment of smoking zones in indoor public places.
Farida Akhter, executive director of Policy Research for Development Alternative, alleged that providing easy loans to tobacco companies hampered the effectiveness of the tobacco control law.
Taifur Rahman, advocacy and media coordinator of Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, said as there were some weak points in Tobacco Control Act, 2005, the government had initiated to amend it.
