Over 350 BNP leaders, activists sued in Ctg

Police sued over 350 leaders and activists of Sitakunda upazila unit of BNP in Chittagong yesterday for their alleged involvement in violence after a court order that sent BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury to jail on Thursday.
Six cases were filed with Sitakunda Police Station against 183 leaders and activists by name and 210 unnamed people on charges of blockade, arson and vandalism, said Inspector (investigation) Aminul Islam of the police station.
The people were involved in blocking the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, torching two vehicles and vandalising at least 30 vehicles in Barabkunda, Shuklal Hat, Kumira, Salimpur, Dakkhin Bypass and Port Link Road areas in the upazila, he said.
On Thursday, Aslam was sent to jail in an arson and vandalism case lodged with the police station on April 8.
