Order on plea seeking contempt rule against HRW Sep 2
A tribunal in Dhaka, dealing with war crimes cases, has fixed September 2 to decide whether it would issue a contempt of court rule against Human Rights Watch (HRW) for its report on former Jamaat chief Ghulam Azam’s war crimes verdict.
International Crime Tribunal-1 set the date after a four-member delegation of the prosecution placed argument on their petition before the court on Thursday.
The prosecution on Tuesday filed the petition with International Crimes Tribunal seeking contempt proceedings against HRW Asia Director Brad Adams, its associate for the Asia Division Storm Tiv, and its board of directors for its report published on Friday.
The petition against the New York-based rights body was filed as it claimed that the trial of Ghulam Azam at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 had been “deeply flawed” and “it had not met the international standards”.
In the petition, the prosecution urged the ICT-1 to initiate the contempt proceedings.
