Opposition agitation begins in Ctg today

CHITTAGONG, Jan 17: The BNP-led Opposition alliance in Chittagong announced a fresh week-long agitation programme beginning tomorrow demanding cancellation of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) election held on January 3.

The programmes include holding of rallies and processions in every ward, opposition sources said.

The alliance, however, threatened to announce hartal for an indefinite period if the CCC poll was not cancelled by January 25.

The hartal will be announced at a rally at Laldighi maidan here on January 25.

A black flag procession will be brought out on that day in the city, the sources added.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders urged the former CCC commissioners not to hand over office to the newly elected ones.
