Only two response so far
Only Nepal and Kuwait have so far confirmed their participation in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament originally scheduled for a September 8 start, one month after Bangladesh Football Federation officially invited eight nations for the tournament.
“Nepal have ensured their participation while Kuwait said they also want to take part in the Gold Cup, but want the tournament to be deferred by a week,” said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag yesterday.
Nayeem informed that BFF president Kazi Salahuddin would travel to China this month to meet football officials of Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, who are supposed to attend the Asian Youth Games, starting from August 16, in an effort to get the final nod from the Middle East nations.
The BFF general secretary also said that they have been working on the tournament's by-laws, format, possible participants and the facilities to be provided to the participating teams and they are expected to submit a detailed proposal to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) within a week of final approval to hold the eight-nation Gold Cup.
