One chopped to death at Eid congregation in Natore

NATORE, Jan 11: One person was killed and five others, including a union parishad member were injured in an armed attack by a gang of terrorists at an Eid congregation at Dilalpur Edgah in Lalpur thana of the district on Sunday.

Police and witnesses said, the gang numbering about 25 in a bid to kill Walia UP member Nazrul Islam swooped on the devotees while they were saying prayers at around 11 am.

A rickshawpuller, Abu Bakar, was chopped to death where he tried to save the UP member.

Police said the attack was a sequel to previous enmity between the UP member and the terrorists.

Injured UP member Nazrul Islam was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while four others were taken to the local health complex.

A case was filed with Lalpur thana, but none was arrested till filing of this report at 6 pm today.
