Nrityajog's International Dance Day celebrations
Nrityajog, the Bangladesh chapter of the World Dance Alliance-Asia Pacific, has chalked out elaborate programmes -- including a dance competition and performances -- to mark International Dance Day 2013, says a press release.
The competition, titled “Bikoshito Hok Nobin Chhondo”, will be held on April 26 and 27 (from 9am to 5pm) at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital. It'll have four categories: Folk (ages 5-11); Creative (ages 12-16); Classical -- Manipuri, Kathak, Bharatanatyam (ages 17-25); and Group (under-25).
The winners of the competition will have the chance to perform at a programme on May 1 at the Shilpakala Academy. President of Nrityajog, Sharmila Banerjee; general secretary Lubna Marium; executive members Shoma Mumtaz and Umama Nowrose Ittela will present papers at the programme, while a number of awards will also be handed out to various individuals and organisations for their contribution to dance in Bangladesh.
