Nipun on a high
National award-winning film actress Nipun in on a high in her career, extending her talents to TV commercials and TV serials. The popular actress, who recently returned from India after a movie shooting, talked to The Daily Star about what makes her tick.
How are you enjoying your work on a TV play?
Nipun: A lot. The serial that I'm working on is called “Red Signal”. It's being aired on Banglavision. The director, Masud Shezan, is very talented.
How did you get involved with “Red Signal”?
Nipun: Mosharraf Karim made it happen. When I worked with him in “Lace Fita”, he asked me if I was interested in doing serials. I declined, as commitment to a serial would require a lot of time. However, he introduced me to Masud Shezan, and I joined the cast.
Are you appearing in any special TV plays on Eid?
Nipun: I will be doing a six- episode mini series by Masud Shezan, which will be a sequel to the drama “Hatem Ali”. I'll also appear on a one- hour TV play by Partha Sarkar.
What's the update on your Kolkata film?
Nipun: The shooting over there has been wrapped up. The movie is called “Porichoy”, and I will be acting opposite Prashenjit. Rupali Chatterjee has directed the film, which we shot in different phases over a three-month period. Hopefully it will be released this year.
Are you planning to do more films in Kolkata?
Nipun: First, I would like to receive feedback for “Porichoy”. I'm waiting to see how the audience reacts to my performance with a celebrated star like Prashenjit.
How many films are you working on at the moment?
Nipun: I'm currently doing a film called “Maya Nagar”; work on “Padma Parer Parboti” and “Mayer Momota” is half done, while I'm also waiting for shooting to begin on a new film. Several other movies are awaiting release.
You are a two-time National-Award winner. What were the films that brought you the honours?
Nipun: I received my first National Award in 2008 for my performance in “Shajghor”. The second one came a year later for “Chaa(n)der Moto Bou”.
