7 killed in road crashes
At least seven people were killed in separate road crashes across the country yesterday.
In Moulvibazar, at least four people were killed and 7 injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a Sylhet-bound microbus in Shahpur area of Habiganj's Madhabpur upazila at 2:30pm, said Shayestaganj Highway Police Station Chief Saleh Ahmed.
Three of the deceased were identified as Dilnahar (55), Helena (22) and Murad Mia (22), while another remains unidentified as of yet.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
In Dinajpur, a truck assistant and a motorcyclist were killed in two separate road accidents in Nawabganj and Birganj upazilas.
In Nawabganj, a truck parked at Motihara village on Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway was rammed by another truck, killing helper Mitul Hawladar (23) on the spot. Police said the driver fled the scene following the accident.
In another incident, Zakir Hossain Sujan (22), on his way from Pirganj to Birganj in Thakurgaon, lost control of his motorcycle and hit a tree. He died on the spot, said police.
Meanwhile, a man was killed and five were injured in a head-on collision between a three-wheeler and a car in Joynagar area of Dashuria-Kushthia highway in Pabna's Ishwardi upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Mehedi Hasan Mithu (40), from Char Mirkamari village in Ishwardi. Mehedi was driving the three-wheeler.
The injured were taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex and are currently under treatment. Mehedi succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Police seized the car but the driver fled the scene, said Pakshey Highway Police Station OC Ashish Kumar Shannal.
