ASK urges parties to stop violence

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has urged all parties concerned to take immediate steps to stop the ongoing violence and provide security to general people as they are suffering.
Observing any political programme is a democratic right, but creating violence while doing so had made ASK anxious, said a statement issued by the human rights organisation yesterday.
Criticising vandalism and torching vehicles in the name of hartal, the statement added that the attack on the power sub-station at Kansat have left about 40,000 people without electricity.
Army arranges free medical camp

Bangladesh Army organised a daylong free eye and medical camp for hill people in Bandarban on Monday.
The army's 24 Infantry Division and Bandarban Region gave treatment and medicine to some 300 poor people at the camp at Keokradong, said a press release.
Local lawmaker Bir Bahadur, 24 Infantry Division General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Sabbir Ahmed, Bandarban Region Commander Brig Gen Sayeed Siddiki and Bandarban Deputy Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam were also present at the camp.
Fire guts computer lab in Old Dhaka college

A fire destroyed furniture and electric equipment including four computers at a computer lab of Sheikh Borhanuddin Post Graduate College in Old Dhaka early today.
The fire was put out about 30 minutes after it broke out in the second floor of the four-storey building, suspected to be originating from an electric short circuit.
Two units from Lalbagh fire station battled the fire.
The blaze created huge panic in Nazimuddin Road area, which was neighbouring Nimtoli where a massive fire killed at least 123 people in June 2010.
AL men sued for arson attack on BCL man's house

Some 17 Swechchhasebok League and Juba League men and 15 to 20 others unnamed persons have been sued on charge of Sunday's arson attack on the house of a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader.
Police said Sylhet city BCL publicity secretary Sheikh Abul Hsanat filed the case with Airport Police Station on Monday night alleging that the attackers torched his house at the city's Darshan Deuri area on Sunday afternoon following a past enmity.
They also looted valuables from his house in his absence, said Hasnat in the case statement.
Boy found dead in canal

A boy was found dead in a canal in Fisherighat area in Chittagong city yesterday.
He might have drowned, said Kotwali Police Station Sub-inspector Harun-Ur-Rashid.
The victim was Aman Ullah, 9, son Yunus Mia, of Mithaban village of Kishoreganj district.
The SI, quoting Yunus, said Aman had gone missing while he and some other children were fishing from the canal yesterday morning.
Locals found his body at Fisherighat No-1 around 12:30pm.
Later, the police recovered the body.
Bikalpadhara extends support to Hefajat-e-Islam's long march

Bikalpadhara Bangladesh yesterday extended its “full support” to Hefajat-e-Islam's April 6 long march towards Dhaka.
In a statement, AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, president of BDB, said people were arrested and tried within 24 hours when they spoke against the prime minister.
But those who commented against Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] were not arrested or punished even after six weeks of their comments, he added.
The BDB chief also demanded that the government arrest and punish those who spoke against Islam and Hazrat Muhammad [pbuh].
Comments
