Women's April 27 rally postponed

The grand rally, called by the Protibadi Nari Gono Shomabesh (Women's Mass Protest Rally) to protest the 13-point demand of Hefajat-e Islam, has been postponed.
The rally was scheduled to be held on April 27.
The rally's Media and Publicity Coordinator Shipra Bose said the decision of the postponement was taken at a meeting at the community's secretariat in the capital's Mohila Parishad office in Segunbagicha yesterday. The rescheduled date for the rally will be announced later.
The rally was suspended considering the current situation over Savar tragedy, said a press release.

RU summer vacation from tomorrow

Rajshahi University will go on a 34-day long summer vacation from tomorrow.
During the vacation, no classes and examinations will be held, and residential halls will remain closed until May 31.
Many students urged the authorities to keep open their dormitories so that they can study for competitive job examinations like BCS at their rooms.
The preliminary test for the BCS will be held on May 24. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan said they might open the dormitories on May 23.

Man dies in TV blast

A man died after a television exploded in his Colony intersection residence in Bogra town on Thursday.
The deceased Riad Hossain, 28, son of Abdur Rahim, was a trader of the area.
Police said the TV explosion around 5:00pm started a fire and electrified the hosue, leaving Riad injured.
He was declared dead at Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical Collage and Hospital on arrival.

Landslide kills worker

A worker died in a landslide in front of Sadar Upazila Parishad compound in Thakurgaon municipality area on Thursday afternoon.
The victim Abdul Mazid, 35, of Ambari village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila, had been living at Kochubari Kestapur village in Thakurgaon sadar upazila for the last few years.
Police said a big chunk of earth from one side of a deep channel, which Abdul and other workers were digging for the construction of a drain, fell on them, injuring Abdul.
He succumbed to his injuries at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.
