3 'Hizb-ut Tahrir men' arrested

Police arrested three alleged activists of banned Islamist outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir in the capital yesterday.
In Gulshan, Isa Khan, 24, was held red-handed while he was distributing the group's leaflets among the devotees at Azad mosque before Juma prayers, said Gulshan police Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam.
Later, Isa's cohorts – Delwar Hossain, 25, and Nayem Abdulla, 24, who escaped from the scene – were arrested in Niketon area, he added.
Our Pirojpur correspondent reports, police arrested two alleged activists of another banned outfit Hizb-ut Tawhid in Bhandaria upazila on Thursday night.
They were Mozammel Haq and his son Saiful Islam of Gournadi in Barisal.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote condemns threat to journo Halim

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote yesterday condemned a threat to journalist Halim Azad, president of Narayanganj Press Club and deputy chief reporter of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) to be got out of Narayanganj.
In a press statement, the Jote activists also demanded that the government take actions against those who had threatened Halim.
A total of 251 members, including the Jote's President lawmaker Tarana Halim, protested the threat.
Halim is the literary secretary and one of the founder members of the central committee of the cultural organisation.
Jatiya Party lawmaker Nasim Osman allegedly issued the threat against the journalist on April 17.
Illegal fishing nets, jatka seized

Coast Guard seized illegal fishing nets worth Tk 1 crore and 4 maund of jatka (Hilsha fry) in the river Meghna in Bhola on Thursday.
The gourd's south zone members conducted an eight-hour drive from 10:00am at Kaliganj, Ilisha, and Tulatoli points in sadar upazila and seized 12 lakh metres of the nets, said Lt Dipankar Roy, operation officer.
In another drive, the guard seized the jatka from a launch, MV Jamal, in Lalmohon upazila at about 6:00pm.
Worker dies from electrocution

A construction worker died from electrocution in Chittagong city yesterday.
The deceased was Md Osman, 17, of Bhola district.
Osman came in touch with a live electric wire while working in a under-construction building in Hill View residential area around 9:15am, said outpost police at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
He was declared dead at the hospital on arrival.
Bholahat Jamaat ameer held in Chapainawabganj

Police arrested Jamaat-e-Islami's Bholahat upazila unit Ameer Golam Kabir from Rohonpur municipal area in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj around 11:15am yesterday.
Police said Kabir was accused in three cases filed in connection with killing of local Jubo League leader Abdur Rahman; attacking police and obstructing them from discharging their duties and arson during hartal on March 7.
