DU journalism department celebrates 51st anniversary

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University yesterday celebrated its 51st founding anniversary.
The event began with a colourful procession brought out in the morning from Aparajeya Bangla on the campus.
Established in 1962, the department, first of its kind in the country, has been devoted to producing academically and professionally skilled journalists in the country.
Child dies from electrocution

A child labourer died after being electrocuted at CDA colony in Mehedibag of Chittagong city yesterday.
The incident occurred when Mohammed Bijoy, 16, of Battery Goli area, was connecting a wielding machine to a socket in a building, said his co-worker Nayan.
He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Domestic help 'commits suicide'

A domestic help allegedly committed suicide in her employer's house in Chittagong city's Halishahar area yesterday.
The deceased Soma Akter, 25, of Kishoreganj, worked at the house of Nizam Uddin, an employee of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation.
Halishahar police, quoting the victim's employer, said Soma was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room with a scarf around 3:00am.
Police recovered the body in the morning.
Worker dies in steel factory in Ctg

A worker died during duty at a steel factory in Sitalpur of Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
The deceased, Hamidul Islam, 37, hailed from Lalmonirhat and worked as a lighting technician at the factory of Kabir Steel Re-rolling Mills (KSRM).
Hamidul died after the wire of a crane, carrying raw materials, snapped dropping the load on his head, said Shofiul Azam, sub-inspector of Sitakunda Police Station.
Muggers stab bKash official in capital

Unidentified miscreants stabbed an official of bKash, a subsidiary of Brac Bank that provides mobile cash transfer service, indiscriminately before snatching over Tk 4 lakh from him in the capital's Moghbazar yesterday afternoon.
Shakil Khan, 25, has been shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from a private hospital.
He came under an attack at Amtoli around 4:00pm when he was carrying the money from his workplace to deposit it in a nearby Brac Bank branch in Moghbazar.
Shakil sustained stab injuries to his head and hands and was robbed of Tk 4,10,000, said Ramna police.
