Body found in capital

A 65-year-old man was found dead in a swamp in the capital's Turag on Sunday afternoon.
Being informed by locals, police recovered the floating body clad in a Panjabi near Turag Police Station.
The body with several injury marks was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue yesterday for an autopsy.
A murder case was filed in this regard.
Four arrested with fake visas

Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested four persons with fake visas in the capital's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early yesterday while they were attempting to go to Thailand by a Singapore Airlines flight.
Manzu Mondal, Khalek, Barek Sikder and Hasanur Jaman were arrested while collecting their boarding passes, said APBn officials.
10 Shibir men held in capital

Police yesterday detained 10 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami backed Islami Chhatra Shibir in the capital's Mirpur after they hurled brickbats at law enforcers as they resisted their brisk procession.
They brought out the procession near Mirpur-1 bus stand as part of their fresh agitation programmes declared on Sunday.
Following a chase and counter-chase between the activists and law enforcers, police arrested them, said Mirpur police.
Fire breaks out at warehouse

A fire broke out at a warehouse of sanitary items in the capital's Hatirpool area yesterday.
Fire service officials suspect that the fire originated from an electric short circuit at the warehouse on the fourth floor of a six-storey building and damaged several sanitary items made of ceramic and steel.
Fire fighters doused the fire within an hour.
Road crashes kill two, injure four

One child was killed and four other passers-by were injured when a power tiller veered out of control and hit them on Gopalganj-Chapail road yesterday, reports a Gopalganj correspondent.
The deceased was Tonni, 3, of Sadar upazila. Her mother Rehana Begum and the others were admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital.
A Kishoreganj correspondent adds, Ratan Mia, 26, died after the motorised three-wheeler he was driving overturned at Kaona in Hossainpur upazila yesterday.
BJKP urges Ctg city administration to check transport problem

Bangladesh Jatri Kallayan Parishad (BJKP) yesterday at a human chain urged the administration to take necessary steps to mitigate their sufferings caused by public transport owners in Chittagong city.
The organisation formed the human chain at Bahadderhat intersection to press home their demand.
Speakers said every Eid season transport owners increase passenger fares at their whim and overload their vehicles with passengers on long distance routes causing immense sufferings to the home-bound people.
Two held with Yaba pills in Ctg

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two persons with 11,695 Yaba pills worth around Tk 46.78 lakh in Chittagong city early yesterday.
On information, a Rab-7 team waylaid a pick-up carrying Saidul Amin, 24, and Abdur Rahim, 28, of Cox's Bazar, at Bakalia near Shah Amanat Bridge and recovered the pills from the vehicle.
The two were handed over to Bakalia police.
FFs asked to send mothers' names to ministry for database

The liberation war affairs ministry has asked freedom fighters to send the names of their mothers and the post offices for a draft database the ministry is developing on them.
The ministry has prepared a form to make the entries, which can be downloaded from www.molwa.gov.bd, said a press release yesterday.
Completed forms should be sent to [email protected] or Abul Kashem Talukdar, Room: 709, joint secretary, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, by August 4.
Civic monitoring cell on vested property act to meet on Aug 17

The National Civic Monitoring Cell for Implementation of the Vested Property Return Act 2001 will hold a meeting on August 17 to share the concern of different stakeholders over the implementation of the act.
The decision came from an emergency meeting of the cell held on Sunday, says a press release.
