DSCC celebrates Bangla New Year

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) yesterday celebrated the advent of the Bangla New Year, 1420.
Nazrul Islam, DSCC administrator, along with the officials and employees brought out a vibrant procession with colourful placards, banners and a horse carriage from the capital's Nagar Bhaban.
The rally ended at the same place after parading Golap Shah Mazar, Zero Point, Jatiya Press Club, Kadam Fawara and Bangabazar, said a press release.
A cultural programme was also held at Nagar Bhaban.

Bullets recovered in capital

Police yesterday recovered 100 bullets of a shotgun from a bush behind Joar Shahara Police Box in the capital's Khilkhet area.
Informed by locals, police recovered 10 packets, each containing 10 bullets, from a plastic bag.
Shamim Hossain, officer-in-charge of Khilkhet Police Station, said criminals might have left the bullets.

Condolence book for Thatcher opens to public on April 15

The condolence book, opened by the British High Commission in Dhaka in memory of Margaret Thatcher, will be open to the British communities and public for signing on April 15.
According to a press release, the book will be available in the main reception area of the high commission from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
The page will be later sent to Margaret Thatcher's family.
The funeral of Lady Thatcher will be held in London on April 17. The UK government has declared April 17 a day of official mourning.

US embassy closed April 14

The American Embassy, including the Consular Section and the American Center with the Archer K Blood American Center Library and the Student Advising Center, will remain closed on Sunday [April 14], on the occasion of Bangla New Year's Day, a Bangladeshi national holiday.
Emergency services for American citizens will be available at 885-5500, said a press release.

Centenary celebration of Hathazari Parbati High School begins

A four-day long centenary celebration of Hathazari Parbati High School began yesterday with much enthusiasm and festivity.
Lawmaker Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud inaugurated the programmes organised by Centennial Celebration Parishad of the school at around 11:00am.
Various events, including discussions, cultural programmes, and children's rally, will be held till April 14.
Principal Md Ismail, chairman of Hathazari Upazila Parishad, and Md Monirul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of the celebration parishad, among others, spoke at the inaugural ceremony with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Israt Jahan Panna in the chair.
